I haven't done anything this week - partially because I needed a break after my first race of the season, and partially because I've got only two months 'till my A race. Oh, and because I'm on the wrong side of the country, so I couldn't bring my bike with me - and without the joy if biking, other forms of exercise are just no fun. I can't believe how tight my legs have been this week - I'm used to soreness, but it just seems like everything has locked up in absence of exercise. Just spent half an hour stretching during Extreme Makeover - tomorrow I'll be on airplanes all day, then
Saturday is gonna be spent on the bike! YAY!
A couple of days off the bike, and I get grouchy. Lack of endorphines gets to me bad. It's been cold and rainy all week here, and it sucks. The trainer in the summer just ain't right.
ReplyDeleteI got a new trainer over the weekend (blackburn trackstand ultra) but only spent about 5 minutes on it to try it out. Also got a new bottom bracket and big ring. Old BB felt like gravel and I'm sick of maintaining it - it was a 7700 Dura-Ace unit, which was the last fully serviceable bb they made. It's a great design (roller and ball bearings, really light) but extremely touchy. So I replaced it with an Ultegra unit, sealed bearings.
ReplyDeleteI run an FSA slk carbon crank w/ mega xo bracket. Very smooth and fairly lite. I had to retorque the crank bolts twice, and has been great since then. FSA seems to make quality for a nice price. I converted my MTB cockpit to FSA for next to nothing.
ReplyDeleteI have FSA cranks on two bikes right now (I think?) but my main machine is all Shimano (save for the chain.) It's also 9-speed. 9-speed stuff is getting harder and harder to find. I've noticed that though most of the aftermarket (i.e. FSA, etc) cranks are advertised to work on 9 AND 10 speeds, it seems as if they were designed for 10s.
ReplyDeleteI really, really liked the Dura-Ace bb I had, but even when babied, it was cantankerous. I was removing and lubing the thing more frequently than I was replacing chains. Over the last year, I just let it go and it finally wore out.
